Alocasia Mural

Writer's picture: raeandhoneyraeandhoney

I'll be honest, I had to do a little research to find out which plant I had painted, but I believe it was an Alocasia. Maybe I totally made this plant up in my head, I'm not really sure.

Either way, my mom told me she had a blank black was that she would love a mural on. She sent me some inspiration, I sent her a few sketches, and we decided on some giant leaves! She didn't want anything to crazy or in your face, so we decided on the outlines and a few lines in the inside of the leaves.

I used a small paint brush and Baby Fawn by Benjamin Moore to paint the mural. I started with sketching out the whole design in pencil (which I later found out I should have used chalk), then got to painting. I would say it took me around eight hours, but I really didn't keep track. The fact that I was seven months pregnant made things go a little more slowly.

When painting such a light color on black, two, sometimes three coats are needed. The second and third coats were more time consuming, but now my mom has a mural in her house!
