Bedroom Refresh

When we first got married, I had pretty much no sense of my home style. My husband had bought his own comforter when he moved, and it was a manly dark gray color. So naturally, I decided to match that.... by painting the bedroom walls grey (although those turned out a little blue) and buying dark gray curtains to match. Not my best moment.

Three years into our marriage and I've turned most of our house around, but the bedroom is still a very sad, dark space. My first change was a new white quilt, which did a lot of good compared to the dark gray!

The next step was pretty predictable, I painted the whole room White Dove by Benjamin Moore. There aren't many rooms left in our house that don't have that color in there somewhere. It's a soft white that feels clean yet homey to me, so I'm going to just continue with that trend.

I loved creating the wall mural in my laundry room so much, why not do that again? Planning began on my laptop. Again, I wanted something somewhat neutral, but with a little bit of color since I'm getting sick of the old black and white. Here is my digital sketch before the real work began!

My color scheme this time:

I of course had to make things difficult for myself for the sake of a cool video, which meant painting the shapes in sort of a strange order. But the video turned out really well, so it was worth it in the end! To see that video, you'll have to visit my Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/rae.and.honey/?hl=en) or TikTok (https://www.tiktok.com/@rae.and.honey)! However, if you want to see the picture version, here you are!

If you want to try something like this out, go for it! Here are a few things to remember: 1) This doesn't take talent. Seriously. Anyone can do this. It may take a lot of measuring, taping, and a ton of time, but anyone can handle it! 2) Don't forget to seal your tape before painting! That means tape, paint the original color over the tape, then paint your new color. That way if anything bleeds through the tape, it will be the wall color and won't be noticeable. In case that doesn't make sense to you, say I was about to paint the tan lines. I would tape the borders, paint white over the tape so that only white could bleed though and seal the tape completely, then paint the tan. You will end up with crisp paint lines every time! And last but not least, 3) it's just paint! You can so easily paint over it in a year if you decide it isn't you anymore. Paint is the cheapest way to transform a space. So don't sweat it, just go for it and see what happens!
